Garth Brooks Faces Rape and Battery Allegations from Former Makeup Artist
On October 3, 2024, a civil lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court by an anonymous woman referred to as “Jane Roe,” accusing renowned country singer Garth Brooks of rape and battery during a 2019 work trip.
Allegations Detailed
According to the complaint, Jane Roe began working for Brooks’ wife, singer Trisha Yearwood, in 1999 and later for Brooks himself in 2017. She alleges that during a business trip to Los Angeles in May 2019, Brooks booked a hotel room with only one bed for both of them. There, he allegedly raped her. Additionally, Roe accuses Brooks of:
-
Exposing his genitals and buttocks in her presence.
-
Sending sexually explicit text messages.
-
Changing clothes in front of her without warning.
-
Discussing sexual fantasies, including proposing a “threesome” with his wife.
Garth Brooks’ Response
Brooks has denied all allegations, claiming they are part of an extortion attempt. He stated that he has been “hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars.” Brooks also filed a countersuit in Mississippi, accusing Roe of extortion and defamation.
Response from Jane Roe’s Legal Team
Roe’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, stated: “We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions. The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood, and the rap and rock and roll industries but also in the world of … .”
Current Status of the Case
The California lawsuit has been paused while a federal court in Mississippi considers Brooks’ countersuit. Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald denied Brooks’ motion to dismiss the California case, pending the Mississippi court’s decision on whether the case should proceed in California.
