La chanteuse Tina Turner

Carrying forward the unstoppable spirit of Tina Turner, the Proud Mary Foundation — a global charity established in her honor — has achieved a remarkable milestone: over $10 million raised in just one year. Dedicated to empowering women who have survived domestic abuse and helping them rebuild their lives, the foundation’s success proves that Tina’s legacy of strength and resilience continues to change the world she left behind.

Founded in 2024 by Turner’s husband, Erwin Bach, along with a coalition of close friends and international women’s organizations, the Proud Mary Foundation was inspired by Tina’s own journey from trauma to triumph. “This isn’t just a charity,” Bach said at a press conference in Zurich. “It’s a promise — that no woman will ever have to walk through darkness alone, the way Tina once did.”

The foundation’s programs focus on emergency housing, legal aid, counseling, and educational grants for women escaping abusive situations. Much of the funding comes from high-profile benefit concerts, private donors, and a series of star-studded fundraising events across Europe and the U.S.

The organization’s flagship event, “Rolling on the River: A Night for Tina,” held earlier this year in London, featured performances by Beyoncé, Adele, and Pink, each paying tribute to Turner through her iconic songs. The event alone raised nearly $3 million, with proceeds directed to shelters and mentorship programs in more than ten countries.

In a statement shared during the anniversary celebration, Beyoncé praised the foundation’s work, saying:

“Tina showed us that a woman’s power doesn’t end in her pain — it begins there. The Proud Mary Foundation is her legacy in motion.”

The foundation also announced plans to launch the Tina Turner Academy for Women, a global initiative offering leadership and career training to survivors of abuse. “We want to give these women not just safety, but strength,” said foundation director Dr. Alina Moser. “Tina’s message was always about transformation — taking your hurt and turning it into power. That’s what we teach every day.”

Social media has erupted with praise for the foundation’s impact, with fans and activists using the hashtag #ProudMaryFoundation to share stories of women whose lives have been changed by its support. One survivor, identified only as Lila, wrote:

“I left an abusive relationship last year. The Proud Mary Foundation gave me a place to live, legal help, and hope. Tina’s story gave me courage — now I’m standing on my own two feet.”

Beyond the numbers, what makes the foundation extraordinary is how closely it reflects the heart of the woman who inspired it. Tina Turner spent much of her life speaking openly about surviving domestic violence and rebuilding her sense of self-worth. “I don’t hate my past,” she once said. “It made me who I am. I’m a survivor by nature.”

That survivor’s spirit now lives on in every woman the foundation helps — in every home rebuilt, every dream restored, every life reclaimed.

As Erwin Bach concluded during the anniversary gala:

“Tina gave the world her music. Through this foundation, she’s still giving her strength.”

With over $10 million raised and countless lives already touched, the Proud Mary Foundation isn’t just honoring Tina Turner’s name — it’s ensuring that her legacy of courage keeps rolling, strong as ever, down the river of hope.
