A surprising new musical project has Neil Diamond fans buzzing: the upcoming film “Song Sung Blue,” starring Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman, will celebrate Diamond’s legacy in a unique way — through the story of a tribute band, not a traditional biopic.
The film centers on a middle-aged couple, once local performance stars, who cope with the loss of their son by forming a Neil Diamond tribute band. The plot goes beyond performance, diving deep into grief, healing, and rediscovery of purpose through music.
Kate Hudson will sing Neil Diamond’s songs live in the film — a rare musical role for her. Hugh Jackman, known for his standout performance in The Greatest Showman, will play the emotionally wounded husband using music as therapy.
Interestingly, Neil Diamond does not appear in the film, but he has granted full rights to his iconic catalog, and reportedly sent his blessings to the cast and creators for “breathing new emotional life into familiar lyrics.”
Currently in pre-production, Song Sung Blue is expected to be released in 2026. It’s not a movie about Neil Diamond — but it may be the most emotionally powerful expression of his musical spirit ever put on screen.
