Engelbert Humperdinck Opens Up About Losing His Wife and How It Changed His Music Forever
Legendary crooner Engelbert Humperdinck has spent over six decades serenading the world with romantic ballads — but in a rare and deeply emotional interview, the singer opened up about the personal tragedy that nearly silenced his voice for good.
In 2021, Engelbert lost his beloved wife, Patricia, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The loss was devastating, and for a time, the artist disappeared from the public eye, fueling rumors of retirement and declining health.
“She was my everything,” he shared. “After she passed, I couldn’t sing for months. I didn’t even want to listen to music.”
Now, as he embarks on what may be his final international tour, Humperdinck says the grief has not only deepened his performances — it has redefined his connection to the lyrics he’s sung for years.
His latest renditions of classics like “Release Me” and “The Last Waltz” are no longer just love songs. They are quiet conversations with the past.
“When I sing now, I’m singing to her,” he said, eyes glistening. “It’s not about applause. It’s about memory.”
Humperdinck also announced that proceeds from several of his upcoming concerts will go toward Alzheimer’s research, saying it’s the cause he’ll carry with him to the very end.
