Former Bay City Rollers Member Passes Away at 62 – The Truth Leaves Fans in Shock!
On September 1, 2020, Ian Mitchell, former member of the renowned pop rock band Bay City Rollers, passed away in California, USA, at the age of 62. The band’s official Facebook page confirmed the news, expressing deep condolences to his family and fans.
Born on August 22, 1958, in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, Ian Mitchell joined Bay City Rollers in 1976 at just 17 years old, replacing founding member Alan Longmuir. He was the first member not born in Edinburgh, Scotland – the band’s hometown.
During his brief tenure with the band, Mitchell contributed to the album “Dedication” and provided vocals for the title track and the cover of Dusty Springfield’s “I Only Want to Be with You,” which reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. However, due to internal tensions, he left the group after seven months.
After departing from Bay City Rollers, Mitchell formed the band Rosetta Stone with his school friends and continued his musical career with various solo projects. He also participated in several Bay City Rollers reunions in later years.
Ian Mitchell’s passing is a significant loss to the music community and fans worldwide. Former bandmates, including Stuart “Woody” Wood, have expressed heartfelt tributes and shared cherished memories of their time together.
