Larry Bastian, the celebrated country music songwriter known for penning some of Garth Brooks’ most iconic songs, passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 90 in Porterville, California.
Born on September 1, 1934, in Porterville, Bastian began his professional life as a biologist for the Department of Agriculture in Kern and Tulare Counties. However, his passion for music led him to songwriting in the 1970s, contributing to the Bakersfield Sound movement. He collaborated with numerous country legends, including Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, and Reba McEntire.
Bastian’s most notable partnership was with Garth Brooks.
